Anglo-Chinese School (Primary) will be moving from its current Barker Road campus in Newton to Tengah, as part of a major effort by the school to be accessible to as many pupils as possible. The new ACS Primary, to be located in the up-and-coming Housing Board town in the west of Singapore, will also, from the same year, accept girls for the first time. The relocated ACS Primary will start operations in 2030 with only new Primary 1 pupils, in other words, those born in 2023. The school will have a larger capacity of 11 Primary 1 classes, up from eight currently.

The Ministry of Education announced that Pioneer Primary School would be relocated to Tengah in 2026 and be the first primary school in the area. It will open or move another four mainstream schools and two special education (Sped) schools in the western and north-eastern regions of Singapore from 2026. Followed by the relocation of Bukit View Primary School, currently in Bukit Batok East, to Bukit Batok West, about 2km away, in 2027. A new primary school will open in Tengah, tentatively in 2028.

1. The masterplan For Tengah Town was announced on 8th September 2021 by National Development Minister Lawrence Wong at the HDB awards ceremony.
2. In line with HDB’s Roadmap to provide well-designed, sustainable and community-centric towns, we have seen the steady completion of a new generation of public housing projects in recent years, each with their own distinctive designs, abundant green spaces, seamlessly-connected cycling and pedestrian networks, and vibrant community spaces for interaction.  The upcoming new “Forest Town”, Tengah, will further raise the bar for public housing, with its fresh planning concepts, bold ideas and innovative designs.
3. Located in the Western region of Singapore, Tengah is bounded by the Kranji Expressway (KJE), Pan-Island Expressway (PIE), Brickland Road and Bukit Batok Road. The key driving planning concept behind Tengah is the creation of a “Forest Town”, with homes surrounded by lush greenery and nature, where residents can enjoy quality living and connect with the community in a myriad of amenities and green spaces.

4          The development of Tengah will be guided by six key ideas as follows:

  • Creating an evergreen forest town
  • Provisions for moving around with ease
  • Provisions for walking and cycling everywhere
  • Creating five unique housing districts
  • Enabling close-knit communities
  • Creating a Smart and sustainable town
5          Tengah will be the first “forest town”, planned to be integrated with the area’s surrounding greenery and biodiversity. One major attraction will be a collaboration with National Parks Board to create approximately 100-metre wide and 5km long forest corridor, which will connects the Western Water Catchment Area and the Central Catchment Nature Reserve. Amenities such as hiking trails would be incorporated so the residents can get close to nature and rainforest.
6. The Tengah Town Centre will be design as a car-free Town Centre, amidst a lush park, with vehicles plying underneath the town centre. It will offer a greener, car-lite, people-friendly and pedestrian-friendly environment.  Dedicated walking and cycling paths to enable residents to enjoy seamless and safe connections for walking and cycling.
7.  The development of Tengah will be guided by the Smart HDB Town Framework, introduced in 2014. Smart solutions can help create a more livable, sustainable and safe living environment.
